CHUF's Plans

This year CHUF is taking on its greatest challenge ever. As part of building development being carried out at the Freeman Hospital CHUF are trying to raise sufficient funds to finanace a house to be used as parents' accommodation in the hospital grounds.

For a long time now it has been obvious that parents of children undergoing treatment in the Children's Heart Unit need somewhere to stay to be close to their children. Young patients in the unit come from every corner of the United Kingdom and even from abroad to take advantage of the excellent treatment provided. The unit is highly acclaimed throughout the worl for its work in children's transplants.

Because of the long distances involves it's impossible for many families to travel regularly between hospital and home to be with their children. Staying in hotels or B&Bs is far from an ideal solution.

As most CHUF volunteers have been in the same position as these families they understand the great ened for accommodation close to their sick children. The house would ensure families are on hand to give their youngsters the comfort, care, support and love they need at such times. Being so close to their children would give parents a sense of continuity and reassurance at a very difficult time.
