Celebrating Transplantation – A story of the NHS at its finest

On Thursday 16th October, we’re teaming up with Newcastle Hospitals Charity to bring you a very special evening, ‘Celebrating Transplantation – A story of the NHS at its finest’.

This uplifting event will share the incredible journey of Max Johnson’s heart transplant at the Freeman Hospital in 2017, led by world-leading surgeon Mr Asif Hasan. The story, beautifully told in Dr Rachel Clarke’s award-winning book The Story of a Heart, captures the remarkable gift of life given through transplantation, and how the story helped change UK law for the better.

The conversation will be expertly hosted by broadcaster Alfie Joey and will offer a rare chance to hear first-hand from both Dr Clarke and Mr Hasan about this life-changing moment in history and the continuing impact of transplantation here in the North East.

Venue: Freeman Hospital, Institute of Transplantation Lecture Theatre
Refreshments from 5.30pm | Discussion 6-7pm
Complimentary parking available
