Office Volunteering

As a small team we are always looking for new volunteers to assist us with our office administration. Tasks include conducting stock takes, counting donations, completing research and distributing CHUF items to supporters as well as helping us to prepare for our events.

Volunteering at CHUF Events

There are many events throughout the year for you to be a part of either in preparing for our events or on the day itself.

In the weeks leading up to our events we require help with various tasks including packing goody bags, wrapping prizes and sorting through donations such as bears for our teddy bear tombolas.

CHUF has a varied events calendar requiring a wide range of volunteer support. Our annual CHUF Toddle at Close House requires as many people as possible to dress up in character and assist on our stalls with previous events having close to 100 volunteers in attendance. We also have balls, golf days and many other events which we simply couldn’t run without the outstanding support of our volunteers.

From selling raffle tickets to spotting for our auctions, we can’t thank our volunteers enough!

Community Volunteering

Throughout the year we have various opportunities to raise funds and awareness in the community, in order to do so we rely heavily on volunteer support. Examples include bag packs and collections in supermarkets and shopping centres.

CHUF Shop Volunteering

Since opening in 2015, the CHUF shop has proven to be an absolute lifeline for not only families and staff on The Children’s Heart Unit but also patients, visitors and personnel from across the whole hospital. Stocking a wide range of CHUF merchandise, toiletries and snacks, the CHUF shop now also provides tea, coffee and other hot drinks meaning parents are able to access refreshments easily whilst remaining in close proximity to their child on the ward. In 2020 the shop celebrates £250,000 in takings as it reaches its 5th birthday, with all profits helping support children who are born with or develop heart conditions.

Located at the entrance to Ward 23 at Freeman Hospital, the CHUF shop is managed by CHUF’s parent Trustee, Arthur Campbell, who has been on the board since 1989! The shop is manned solely by volunteers which means we are always on the lookout for new faces to join us.

We are looking for volunteers to help us in the shop:
Tuesday and Wednesdays 16:30 – 19:30
Thursday 10:30 – 16:30 
Saturday 12:30 – 16:30
