Seb Hollingsworth had been born just a few short weeks before having to undergo lifesaving open heart surgery at the Freeman Hospital.
Seb's parents Ivan and Nadine were inspired to repay the Children's Heart Unit that saved their son's life, by organising charity balls, completing a series of stunts, ultra-endurance C2C challenges and running 100 miles in 24 hours. All of this has funded critically important pieces of equipment and a Play Specialist Nurse. In 2014 Seb opened a £330,000 playroom next to Ward 23 on the Children’s Heart Unit, completely funded by Ivan and Nadine’s efforts.
Prime Minister David Cameron said:
“Ivan is an extraordinary fundraiser, capturing the imagination with challenges that many others would not even dare to attempt. He has done a fantastic job raising money and awareness – and helping to lessen the suffering of sick children. I am delighted to recognise Ivan’s service by making him a Point of Light.”
Ivan’s final (and greatest) challenge took place on the 28th and 29th of October 2017, involving a gruelling 268 mile cycle ride from London, to then disembark and run the equivalent of two marathons – 52 miles, all in one complete challenge covering 320 miles in total. The challenge brought Ivan back to the Children’s Heart Unit, where Sebastian’s incredible survival story began and is a final celebration of all the work Seb4CHUF has done for the charity.
