On Saturday 3rd September teams picked up paddles to take on the Tyne in the 3rd Newcastle Dragon Boat Race. Companies and groups of friends competed in heats throughout the day to splash their way to victory in ornate Dragon Boats.

The day was a brilliant teambuilding day for many Northeast businesses, and a chance for individual supporters to get involved in day of fun and frolicks benath on of Newcastle’s most iconic landmark.

On dry land, The North East Chinese Community Association and energetic Newcastle Kung-Fu team kicked of proceedings and wowed the crowds with a mesmerising traditional Lion Dance. Supporters and passers-by got heavily involved cheering on the teams as well as trying their hand at the CHUF tombola, raffle and Chinese crafts! 🐉

We even had special visitors from a galaxy far far away; CHUF’s long standing friends from the North East Legion popped by to help raise funds and delight Star Wars fans on the Quayside.

Well done to Primula, The Entrepreneurs Forum, Newcastle Building Society, Newcastle NHS Night Nursing Service,  Sunderland Software City, Lidl, Take One Fitness, The Wild Women, Hug in a bag and our mixed boat solo challengers all worked and played incredibly hard, with charity chums Hug in a bag claiming overall victory and raising the  DBR 2022 Trophy 🏆!!

Huge thanks to all the companies for getting staff out on the water and our partners The Altanlic Dream and NE1 who helped organise a safe and fun day for everyone. Thanks also to The Dragon Boat Company, Urban Gardens, Head Of Steam and our CHUF volunteers who all played a part in making the day a success.

The funds are still being counted so we will update with the grand total very soon- but we can report that more than £5000 has been raised to help Heart Heroes through the Dragon Boat Race so far, a brilliant result!
