We are looking to recruit a Treasurer in place of David Charlton who is retiring from the Board in July.
CHUF’s vision is to support pioneering services that will positively impact heart families, inspire hope and enable Heart Heroes to reach their full potential. CHUF supports children and families who receive treatment at the Children’s Heart Unit based at the Freeman Hospital and the many other hospitals providing care for cardiac patients throughout the North of England.
In addition to the general responsibilities of a trustee, the duties of the treasurer include the following:
Overseeing, approving and presenting budgets, monthly management accounts and financial statements to the board of trustees
Being assured that the financial resources of CHUF meet its present and future needs
Ensuring that the charity has appropriate investment and reserves policies
Ensuring that appropriate accounting procedures and controls are in place through the chairmanship of the Finance Committee
Advising on the financial implications of the charity’s strategic plans
Ensuring that the financial statements are prepared and disclosed in accordance with relevant statutory bodies, for example the Charity Commission and/or the Registrar of Companies
Ensuring that the financial statements are scrutinised in the manner required (independent examination or audit) and any recommendations are implemented
Keeping the board informed about its financial duties and responsibilities
Contributing to the fundraising strategy of the charity and liaising as appropriate with other committees, e.g. risk management.
Sitting on appraisal, recruitment and disciplinary panels as required
Ideally the Treasurer will be professionally qualified and in role. The Treasurer will work closely with the Chairman, Ivan Hollingsworth and the Director of Fundraising and Operations, Charlotte Campbell. The Treasurer will also work with UNW who maintain the accounting records on behalf of the charity and with Brewin Dolphin who manage CHUF’s investment portfolio.
Board meetings are held bi-monthly and the Treasurer will need to have the ability to explain the finances to non-financially conversant trustees.
If this position is of interest, please contact our Chairman, Ivan Hollingsworth at Ivan.Hollingsworth@chuf.org.uk with an up to date C.V. and an explanation as to why the role is of interest to you.
