The Big Give festive charity incentive week ran from the 28th of November to the 5th of December. The Christmas Challenge 2017 promised to double any donation up to £37,500. For donations to be doubled, all funds had to be submitted through The Big Give website.

Thank you to everyone who took part in The Big Give and for your kind donations. You helped us to raise an incredible £80,706.25!

The Big Give allowed people to see their generosity going much further. All funds will go toward life-saving transplant equipment. Heart transplants are a traumatic experience for children and their families. Current equipment permits a four hour timescale between receiving the donor heart and using it in a transplant – but new OCS equipment can push this timescale to a full 24 hours.

This extra time is critical, giving a surgeon time to assess the new heart before risking a transplant. Donations during The Big Give will go towards funding disposable equipment that will be used in three transplants, which will keep the heart beating as it arrives for the operation and will give doctors crucial hours in which to assess the organ – which means hearts that would have been unsuitable in the past may now get a chance to save lives.
