Heart Month Businesses Supporting Chuf Throughout February

Buy delicious treats from Northeast businesses this heart month to raise smiles all round!

They say there’s little in life that a cup of tea can’t help, but we say add in some cake and things will feel even better!

Northeast Bakeries Dreamworld Cakes and Cake Stories are wearing their hearts on their sleeves once more and will be supporting Chuf throughout Heart Month. What’s more  we’re really excited to welcome a new business to the fold, one that has something a bit special for the grown ups! Whether you’re planning for Valentine’s Day, need to send a Birthday surprise or even just fancy treating your workplace to a pick-me-up this February, our Heart Month business friends have got your back with delicious gems that will not only raise smiles but help raise funds for Heart Heroes too.

Dreamworld Cakes is a family-run continental patisserie based in the heart of Ouseburn, Newcastle. After meeting at London’s prestigious Nadell Patisserie and supplying delicacies to high-profile events such as the Chelsea Flower Show and Buckingham Palace Garden Parties Great British Bake Off The Professionals finalists, Bernadett and Richard moved North to be near family and set up Dreamworld Cakes. The pair have won many awards and accolades for their delicious sweet treats, but remain grounded in their local community and have committed to support Chuf since the ‘Heart On Sleeve’ for Heart Month campaign began. For the third year running Dreamworld Cake will be kindly donating all the profit from the sales of a heart month special sweet treat, to Chuf.

“What Chuf does to support the heart unit at the Freeman Hospital is amazing, so we love being involved with the charity. Our customers can enjoy delicious treats in Heart Month with the knowledge that they’re also helping us to raise funds for families facing a difficult journey with a poorly child- what could be better?”- Bernadett Szucs

Cake Stories too is a family run business with Hannah and Ben Evans and Liz and John Ward’s small cake and coffee shop opening in Jesmond 2015. The business has expanded to include a second premises at trendy Hoult’s Yard in Byker. In addition to their Newcastle-based coffee shops, the company’s online site allows customers to send tasty treats to loved ones all over the country with their letterbox bakes. The micro craft cakery now sells it’s home baked desserts wholesale, supplying over 200 other coffee shops and restaurants across the UK. The team recently brought home the prestigious Family Business Entrepreneur of the Year titles at the Great British Entrepreneur Awards in London. When asked whether Cake Stories would want to be involved in raising funds for Chuf this heart month Heart MonthCo-owner Ben said:

“We’ve been involved in this campaign since the beginning and we’d really like to keep that going; it’s nice to know that we’re giving something back to a great charity here in the Northeast.”

With this sentiment this year they’ve added another tasty brownie boxes to their heart month promotion that will see £1 letter box bake donated to Chuf . People wishing to indulge themselves or a loved one can simply pop online and order a Whole Lotta Loveand/or the aptly named  Young Hearts brownie boxes to be delivered anywhere in the UK.

You can order your Heart Month brownies here or pick up a box directly from either of the Cake Stories cafes in Jesmond (Brentwood Avenue) or Byker (Hoult’s Yard).

If you fancy something a little stronger, our friends at WL Distillery have just the thing. Their limited-edition Valentines Gin Sets are available to pre-order for delivery from 1st February and what’s more they’ll donate £1 from every set sold to Chuf.

Founder Scott Wilson-Laing set up the business in 2019, combining his passion for gin and the great outdoors using handpicked ingredients inspired by memories of weekends spent in his granda’s back garden picking and eating blackberries and pears. The Durham-based  distillery focuses on small batch unique gins. WL Distilllery has quickly become a success story, winning a host of awards and being featured in High Life North,  Vogue and GQ.

“The Northeast is blessed with lots of brilliant charities and WL Distillery tries to support as many as we can in different ways. I’m delighted to be supporting Chuf for the first time throughout Heart Month, especially as it’s the charity’s 40th year. Hopefully anyone buying our Valentine’s gin sets will feel extra warm and fuzzy knowing as their purchase will be supporting both an independent small business and a great cause!”

You can buy your Valentine’s Gin Gift Set here.

“This will be the third year running that both Cake Stories and Dreamworld Cakes have worked with Chuf during heart month, and the first time for WL Distillery- it means the absolute world to us. We get to encourage our supporters to buy from the lushest local businesses, who in turn support the heart community by donating some profits to our charity. The Chuf family is a big extended community that cares.

All of these treats are a great way to wish a loved one Happy Birthday, to celebrate Valentines Day, or even to have in the office for a staff wellbeing coffee morning. In fact, We whope that people migh consider combining these purchases with their Wear Red for Chuf plans!” – Alicia Corporate and Trusts Fundraising Manager at Chuf

Heart Month has a very special fundraising and awareness raising day on Friday 17th February- Wear Red for Chuf Day. Anyone wishing to download a fundraising pack with ideas on how to get involved as well as some downloadable materials can do so here.
