How did they get involved?

As a legacy of the CHUF’n’Builders project in 2014 , JT Dove went on to support CHUF with an initial goal of raising £30k over 2 years.

7 years on and the charity partnership is still going strong!

Both JT Dove and the Children’s Heart Unit Fund are based in the North East, something that is important for the builder’s merchants.

Steve Robinson, Managing Director at JT Dove, explains: “We wanted to raise a meaningful amount of money for a charity where that money would make a real, tangible difference. CHUF is based in Newcastle so it’s close to our hearts and it helps so many young children across the UK. Being a North east business, able to raise a vast amount of money for a local charity that does so much good work, has been incredibly rewarding for everyone concerned.”

Engaging all…

The charity effort sees all 21 JT Dove sites across the North East getting involved, with events being held throughout the year. The local company has embedded fundraising and staff wellbeing into their business plans; not only is this something that they do for the good of the charity; but it’s become part of their team culture. Involving the staff across all departments as well as their customers, the business makes fundraising fun for all – with golf days, sponsored walks and bike rides, bake sales, customer race days and even a charity van wash.

In 2019, their 150th anniversary year, JT Dove held a grand ball for their staff, clients and suppliers and were able to announce that in this special year, the team had smashed a £100k target for CHUF.

Steve champions working with CHUF claiming: “It’s a great way of having some fun at work, it helps with team building and the key thing is it also helps bring our staff together with our customers giving everyone a common goal! There’s also been a great benefit to the business, for example our merchant apprentices became CHUF ambassadors taking on the task of spreading fundraising ideas throughout the branches- their skills and confidence grew massively and their profile within the business leapt forward 2 or three years so it was a fantastic opportunity for them to develop. The CHUF team are massively supportive, coming along and providing help and merchandise at client events which helps our customers and suppliers connect with and understand what we’re doing. I know the girls have contacted and supported each individual branch and that is hugely appreciated by the staff there.”

Ongoing support!

When the pandemic hit in 2020, it didn’t stop the company’s support of CHUF and they donated the Christmas raffle’s top prize worth an astonishing £1000!

Now, in 2021 the team are looking forward to once again participating in the Great North Run and will be involved in an exciting rowing challenge for CHUF.
